She`ll be coming down the mountain when she comes...

We rode from Government Camp to Gresham today which was a descent of over 3000 feet.  It was a great downhill except we had rain to contend with.  The temp at Government Camp was about 45 when we left. Add the windchill and the rain and it was one cold ride.  The road was great with wide shoulders and near perfect surface.  I kept wondering what it would feel like on a day with temps in the 90s.

We stopped for something to warm us up in Rhododendron which just happened to be warm apple pie with coffee and tea.  Later we stopped in Sandy for a great burger (and grilled cheese) at Calamity Jane`s.  The unique feature at this place was the ceiling which was adorned with approximately $13,000 (all $1 bills that had been signed and donated by individual customers over the years).

A fellow on a motorcycle pulled up to visit with us in the parking lot.  He was going the other direction, but had seen us and turned around to say "hello".  He was a fellow cyclist (despite the motorcycle) and was heading out in a week on a tour from Canada to Mexico on the Sierra Cascade ACA route.  He was also well acquainted with Carol and Pete who had hosted us in Hood River.  He asked if we had lodging for the night and offered us a place, but we had already made a reservation in Gresham.  He lived in Sandy and we really needed to get on into Gresham so we can catch the Max in the morning.  Would have been fun to visit with he and his wife, however.  They have bicycle toured all over the world.

The Max station is only about a block from our hotel, so we walked over and checked out the train that was in the station to see how best to get our bicycles and all our bags on in the a.m.  We think we've figured it out.  We will have to take the bags off because the bicycles hang from the front wheel.  We`ll let you know how it works out--probably even have pictures.
