Alternative Transportation

Last night at the brewpub Caroline and I made the acquaintance of Aaron, a nice young man with a large pick-up, so we made arrangements for transport to Government Camp.  The ride up to Parkdale was quite strenuous and based on altitude change the ride up to Gov`t Camp looked to be worse.  Caroline and I have different opinions after driving up.  I think it looked like much easier grades, but longer.  At any rate it was a very good decision for another reason--it is raining and 45 degrees.
We were told it is snowing at Timberline lodge which is the ski area above Gov`t Camp (for you non-ski people).  There were folks who had been skiing this morning.

We have had a very pleasant day here. We ate a 2nd breakfast, visited the general store, and then the visitor`s center/museum.  The woman working there was very familiar with the locale and gave us some great advice and ideas about our route into Gresham.  She also fixed us a cup of tea.  Then we browsed the museum and finally made our way to the Mt. Hood Inn where we are spending the night in a bit of luxury, but there aren`t too many budget hotels here.

Tomorrow we will ride into Gresham.  On Friday we will take the Max to Hillsboro which is on the eastern edge of Portland to pick up the Vernonia Trail on our way to Astoria.

Tomorrow morning will undoubtedly be a very chilly start as we descend the mountain.  But we have lots of warm clothing with us, so we will probably put on every layer we have.  I have to admit--I`d rather have 90 degree weather!

  1. Wow, with all this heat in Kansas it is hard to imagine 45 degrees right now. But I know you two are hardy souls and well prepared. Layer up ladies.
